The ruined Basilica of San Benedetto

You will have seen in last week's news the destruction by earthquake of the Basilica in Norcia, which houses the birthplace of St Benedict and St Scholastica.

Fr Cassian Folsom, the Prior of the Benedictine monastery at Norcia, which had already evacuated after the earlier earthquake to temporary accommodation outside the city, sent us the following message in thanks for our prayers:

"Thank you so much for your prayer and your closeness to the community in this time of disaster. The material damage is beyond imagination, but the miracle is that no one was killed or badly injured. The monks are all safe, thanks be to God. After the Aug. 24th earthquake we ordered two pre-fab houses and assembled those at our property outside the walls. So we are able to live our monastic life in our new quarters. This experience has only strengthened the community. The tremors continue. Do keep us in your prayers."
