Evangelium Course to begin in Lent

The Oxford Oratory will be supporting the Holy Father's "Year of Faith" by running the Evangelium Course, beginning in Lent and continuing for the rest of the year.

The course was developed by a group of priests and laymen - some of whom were up at Oxford and knew the Oratory - as a comprehensive course in the basics of the Catholic Faith. Following the structure of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Evangelium covers the Creed, the Church's Worship, Moral Teaching and Prayer.

Evangelium's unique selling point is the use of Christian art to illustrate the truths of the faith in a compelling and memorable way.

The course will run on Saturday mornings in the Guild Room from 11am for an hour. (We hope, before long, to be able to move into the new buildings!) Coffee will be served before the course begins, after the end of the 10am Mass. After the formal sessions there will be ample opportunity for questions.

Evangelium is suitable for those who are practising Catholics who would like to deepen their faith or get an overview of it. It is also ideal for those who are not Catholics but who would like to know more. It is possible to dip into the course for different sessions.

Those interested in becoming Catholics who can come to the majority of the sessions should find they have covered enough material to fulfil the criteria demanded by the Bishop's Conference for reception into full communion with the Catholic Church. People who would like to make use of the course in this way are asked to make themselves known to the priest delivering the course so that a record of attendance can be kept. This can then be passed on to the Parish Priest where they live who will also need to be informed of their intention and who will want to arrange for individual sessions as well.

There is no cost for attending the course, but books and other materials associated with Evangelium will enhance the experience of the course and provide an opportunity to build on the knowledge imparted at each session. These materials will be on sale in the Oxford Oratory Porter's Lodge and in other Oxford parish churches.
