This book offers us a series of reflections and meditations about the main characters in the New Testament. Fr Jerome Bertram's intention has been to look at the text of the New Testament afresh, to try to get away from the sterile approach which has been imposed on the Church by sceptical scholars, without lapsing into over-simple credulity. He attempts firstly to reclaim the New Testament for the ordinary Christian reader, and secondly to look at the fascinating characters of the Apostles and their contemporaries that emerge from the sacred pages, once we have the courage to read the New Testament and to believe it.
