Newman Shrine

Newman Shrine

The newest addition to the Church, this space originally contained a statue of the Church's patron, St Aloysius Gonzaga. This statue disappeared in the 20th century, but has since been replaced by the statue that currently stands in the Relic Chapel.

In 2010, an altar was built in the space, in honour of Blessed John Henry Newman, to coincide with his beatification by Pope Benedict XVI. The shrine was unveiled and blessed by the Archbishop of Birmingham, the Very Rev Bernard Longley, two days after the beatification.
