Newman Night Walk
On 8th October 1845, Blessed Dominic Barberi travelled out from Oxford to Littlemore to receive Blessed John Henry Newman into the Catholic Church. It was a night that changed the history of the catholic Church in England and throughout the world. Each year that historic event is commemorated by a walk from the Oxford Oratory to the College in Littlemore. This year the walk begins with prayers at The Oratory at 7.45pm on Monday 8th October. The walk takes about an hour and a half and the last part is by candlelight. There are readings and prayers at different sites connected with Newman throughout the city, including Trinity College, St Mary’s and Oriel College. There is a Holy Hour in Blessed Dominic’s Church at 10pm followed by a visit to Newman’s Chapel and refreshments.
Pilgrims may join in the walk or the prayers at any point and lifts back to Oxford can be arranged.
Please let us know if you have any intentions you would like to be prayed for through Blessed John Henry Newman’s intercession on this pilgrimage, particularly for those seeking the light of faith or estranged from the Church.
